What's safe to remove from my desktop?

    At times this not disappearing does happen. But if you make sure that the ones in the new folder work you should be able to delete the other one.

    OK. I have to assume that you created the new folders on the Destop. Then Dragged the shortcuts into it/them. If this is truen then you can right click on it and drag it over to the stat menu. ( look at my pix to see where they are )

    Also if you wish to be sure all is well just right click and COPY to the StartMenu. Then delete the old when you are sure. then new one(s) work as planned.

    I am gald to read that you backed away from using Windows Explorer. For just the reasons you mention.

    Thank you. But TAKE YOUR TIME and you will get there. And believe me when I say " I have lost a program or two." ( I forgot where I but it LOL )
