    Another opinion.

I'm in the 9GB school; and I don't install 3rd party programs, or even msOffice in either of two system partitions because I like them small for Ghosting images. XP has about 4GB in use, and Win98SE about 3+ and the images are only 2+GB so fit both easily on DVDs.

My new computer came with XP home installed as well as other apps. HD is 150 Gig. I did not know that you could partitiion the c:\ drive without having to format and start anew. On my old computer I had drives c-g and I loved having my drives organized for different types of software. Can this be done on the new one without formatting or messing up the OS?

Yeah Ann, You'll be able to easily do that using Partition Magic. It's not free but very reasonable considering. Reasonably safe and user friendly. $10 on sale!

The free alternatives are not for the weak of heart.

Ok, done the deed on one of the OS drives:

So ended up taking Christer's and Pete's advice: split the 40 gig partition into 12gb for the OS and the rest for the new partition.

Did it from the other OS, no question about having to shut processes down or having to do it in DOS. Handy Dandy to have two OS's, especially for stuff like this.

Having never done this before, it was a heart stopping moment when it came time to boot that OS up, will it boot up and how will it react?

    Regards - Charles
