    a shut down & restart button pinned to the task bar - is a 4 step user process really required ?

    There is a taskbar on my build 8250 installation - maybe MS felt sorry for me

    Please don't bother. The only place there is a task bar is on the 'classic' Windows desktop. As I said, there is no task bar in Metro.

    I use the classic desktop at the moment because is easier to navigate control panel and user installed utilities (including 16bit games) - at least at the moment , is only the second time I have used this version of Windows
    I am so impressed will probably upgrade my netbook this evening
