You hit the nail on the head Tony.

In most of the organisations, value of data is magnitudes higher than the cost of infrastructure/manpower required to store/access it.

For the time being, I plan to stick to "non cloud" storage only.

i just think of cloud like email, and google documents. You sign-up, get some space on their drivers, and according to their user agreement its "private." Although of course any thing that is hooked to the net can be accessed by anyone who is determined and has the knowledge/tools.

To me "Cloud Computing" is like everyone throwing there shoes/data in one big closet..the cloud.
If you need or want to share a pair of shoes/data go to the closet and grab a pair.

Now your underwear/...important stuff/documents....you don't throw them into the closet and you don't share with anyone. You keep them locked up and in a safe place.

    Is that a fair assumption?

Another concern of mine re data in the cloud, which I have experienced:

many such cloud services periodically change the way they handle your personal data and private info, or they add new features that are capable of sharing your data with other cloud services. So one must regularly change one's settings at such sites. Even gmail does this.

The mobile Web is evolving rapidly, as is the cloud, and these services constantly add new "features" that I'll never need or use.

I wonder who is the target audience for various software vendors for cloud computing. Every vendor is pushing "cloud" as if its some sort of panacea for all the ills that we face but no vendor is underlining the security aspect of it.

As far as I am conncerned if its in "cloud" it could fall as rainfall all around me & I would be helpless to do anything.
