I agree in what you are saying, but my copy of update Windows 7 installs but on boot up have only "White Screen and no software icons displayed on monitor" with a frozen computer. It appears that I am in a stale mate position. Caption "Shutting Down Group Policy Services ", I have never come across this before and certainly have no idea what causes it to appear.

What do you mean by an HP Official Agent? Did you order the disk directly from HP or a website? If you ordered from a website. Could send me the link to that website? Are you using the Windows 7 upgrade disk? Do you have a way to reformat the disk. I have a machine Drive eRazer Ultra that I use. Windows 7 Home Premium

What I can remember, that I had to contact a site in Germany authorised by HP enclosing a cheque for £10, and posted to that address. Surely other people had to do this to up grade to Windows 7 and most probably a few members WindowsBBS did this procedure. With regards to the CD, I have no idea what so ever in reformat being possible. Six years has now elapsed and at my age being over 80, my memory is to an extent has deserted me, sorry. My copy of said disk is "Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Upgrade Media Part number 586221A21 2009 this disk contains64bit software only ", Printed on disk. I would certainly like to solve this error, as having to power up computer twice at each time computer is started. Is it possible to obtain a new disk with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and erase completely the C drive of all entries? I have always been made to believe that a computer sold by a Manufacturer was compiled to their specifications, reason for as in HP, supplying a "Factory Setting" disk.

Any Windows OS disks I've ever ordered in the past few years whether OEM, Upgrade, or Full Retail 32-bit or 64-bit Version were DVDs not CDs. Does the disk show the official HP logo on it. Is this where you could have gotten the disk or some site similar: thebrokersite

OK DVD or CD in format look identical other than the capacity in 4.7GB. With regards to the Windows 7 upgrade it shows Microsoft flag and logo. I can only go with instruction given by HP and that Microsoft did activate the DVD or CD contents of Windows 7.

I searched the Web site through Google for a suitable version of Windows Home Premium 64bit, but all appear to click you to Microsoft Shop who unfortunately no longer retail Windows 7 or at least no reference is made. There are many outlets quoted but very hard to know which are genuine in selling Windows 7. Apparently all require that a genuine copy of XP or Vista is currently installed in computer. As you are aware, I am not confident that my Vista is 100% or indeed 50% trusted to be free of corruption and never have trusted, due to Backup/Restore always been faulty. Having no previous experience on reinstalling OS other than preinstalled as in my case HP, what would you suggest?.

Obviously the way you have been performing the installs as per HP and MS instructions is clearly not working. Do you think you should try a different strategy? If you feel that one or both of the disks could possibly be corrupted. Should you keep using them? The only suggestion I can think of is wiping or purchasing new HDD and purchasing a new Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Operating System DVD and start fresh. But it is your decision ,but, please keep us updated and good luck.

I started this thread to invite members for suggestions that you have indeed provided and I thank you. From what you have said, I can entirely clean out all contents installed on the HDD ( "C" drive), purchase a genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CD and install in the now empty HDD. I believe that you have obtained a genuine Microsoft Windows 7 in the past and would certainly appreciate a source that you dealt with. Thanks again for your support, appreciated.

You're welcome. If you check out my link in post #42. You can use that as a starting point as it was the least expensive that I found at the time I searched. That is generally were I purchase disks.

Many thanks for information on where to purchase a suitable Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I will certainly be making arrangement to obtain a copy priced $89.99 (£60 UK). I will let you know later, thanks again, appreciated.

BobbyScot, make sure you get a W7 DVD with SP1. Also, you will have quite a volume of MS updates to Download. Check you have adequate Broadband access. Download small numbers of Updates at a time.
I would ensure MSE/Defender is protecting your system during this process.
    All the Best ;) Neil.

retiredlearner, thanks for your warning advice, most appreciated. You mention MSE/Defender, every people say not to install this software. An after thought, which is the worse all the hassle or as at present, a double boot up to access Vista. I noticed that my Nvidia GT630 was not current on my computer but this has now been put right -- no difference to the boot up. Thanks again for your help, now and in the past.

MSE/Defender is my first choice for AV. I've had no problems with either and have used them for some 5 years. Make sure you have Motherboard drivers available to install as well and check for updates for your drivers once you get things operating OK. Neil.

I note after "Blue Screen" caption closing "Group Policy Client Services ", why does this happen?, is this the reason for "Blue Scree "? No reference to this can be found anywhere.

lj50, tried previously, with same results "could not repair some errors ". Reference to "Group Policy Client Services" in my case shows when I "shut down" the computer. I note that WindowsBBS requires me to "Sign in" each visit, the remember me box is ticked, apparently box is being un-ticked by an unknown source --- is this common practise?

To me this is a definite reason to start afresh. A 'clean' HDD - new or Formatted and install DVD (W7).
It sounds like there is so much corruption on the disc in question that I would dump it.
BobbyScot, if you can install W7 on a fresh HDD and get it all set and running OK - I would then get info and data you want from the faulty HDD and then dump it. Neil.

Neil, you are definitely 100% correct, I must take immediate action. All my other software are saved on another external hard drives and only Windows Vista and factory setting are installed in the "C" internal HDD. "C" HDD according to disk information as "Healthy ". I contacted TigerDirect, asking if Windows 7 has sp1 installed, unfortunately all that I can receive is a list of their products.

Called TigerDirect It does contain SP1 but they only ship to the US and Canada. Also contacted Newegg and unfortunately they do not ship to Scotland either. I thought it was promising at newegg when I seen they shipped to the UK and New Zealand. Sorry BobbyScot I gave a shot.
