Trying to start up my computer using that flash drive created disk errors. Luckily, Windows was able to repair the damage, and I am now able to get back on my computer.
Doc, do you have any suggestions on a way I can create what you are talking about? WinToUSB works, but it starts out as a 58GB file, leaving very little room for any updates that need to be done. How can I create a bootable, operable OS that will allow me to access my computer if I lose my drive or the OS becomes corrupted?

But the drive thinks it's ReadyBoost and I didn't think Windows can be run that from flash memory.

Obviously it can work, as I did it with WinToUSB, but I'd like to find a way that creates a smaller workable file on the flash drive.

Like I said above, the only way I've done it is with Microsoft's "Windows To Go" with the Enterprise version of Windows. (I cannot afford to get in trouble with Microsoft).

I am writing this from my new flash drive OS, though I had to settle for 8.1 rather than 10. Something is better than nothing, and it seems to work fine... and only take up 8GB of my flash drive memory.

Here is a link to the instructions: http://www.howtogeek.com/196817/how-to-create-a-windows-to-go-usb-drive-without-the-enterprise-edition/

GImageX is a simple little program that works very easily, though it only works with install.wim (win 8) not install.esd (win 10). I found it easiest to send a shortcut of my 8.1 ISO install.wim to my desktop and then access it from there. It does require the complete installation process (as if installing to a hdd or ssd), including inputting the product key, but works fine once installed. Feel free to ask any questions or to give other suggestions on how to do this with Win10.

There is one slight glitch, but I don't see it as an issue if I just plan to use this flash drive for emergencies. The problem is Win 8.1 won't update. It gives this error code: Code 80070005
