Platform: Windows Vista SP2 (WinNT 6.00.1906)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18999)

    Good morning all.

I am new to Vista after using XP for years and I find it like swimming in treacle, it is so slow at doing anything such as opening documents and windows etc...

I have run Defrag, Disc clean up, uninstalled loads of unwanted programs (Pc used to be my daughters), turned system restore off/on to give more space, only after double checking I have no viruses, turned off unwanted toolbars, side bar, user control (Sooo Annoying) and extensions. Does vista need all those processes running, 58 when I just checked?

    Many thanks

    Sean.

There is hardly any useful information in there, so I'll refrain from commenting.

    Good morning Markmadras.

After looking at your link, am I safe to disable all those services on the list...Just being a little cautious because I am not used to Vista.

Could you help me out and let me know how I can get the full details of my operating system, I am sure I have seen something that you can download here that will check for you on the site, but I can’t find it?

    Many thanks for your time

    Sean.

The details of your operating system will be written on the Pruduct Key sticker which should be somewhere on the case of your PC.

To get the details from the PC click on Start menu and right click on Computer then select Properties. This will display the version of the OS that is installed and the service pack level.

Also, "YES" you can safely stop all the services in the list.

The link to Black Viper is well worth a look and will show a lot more information.

    Good afternoon markmadras.

I have used your list and black vipers...After opening and closing numerous documents, web sites etc... I can safely say that with your invaluable help and support it has helped the slowest computer in England speed up to a usable machine.

    Many thanks to you.
