I bought and regularly run RegCure and Driver cure from ParetoLogic but another trial program (Uni Blue registry booster) told me I had a hosts file problem and that I should call admin. (Which I guess is me)

Vista is getting slower so can someone recommend
    1. The very best reg cleaner if Pareto is a dud
    2. Tell me what the hosts file is and whether a non tech user should fiddle with it.

    kind regards,
    MD (home user)

Hi medavies. First off I would highly recommend that you uninstall Regcure and DriverCure form your system. Registry cleaners can do more harm than good and you will not see any performance improvement by using them. All of the software products that are offered by Paretologic are scams and should not be trusted under any circumstances.

I would also see if you could get a refund from Paretologic since you paid for Regcure which is a total scam and could be part of the reason why your computer is so slow.

Regarding the Uniblue Registry Booster, I would uninstall that program as well since it will not make your computer any faster and registry cleaners like the ones you have installed could even make your computer become unbootable. For more information on registry cleaners read this, Are Registry Cleaners Safe To Use and this, Why I Don't Use Registry Cleaners.

Now there are a variety of safer and more efficient ways at getting your computer to run faster.

Try following these steps to make your computer run faster:

    1. Click Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any programs that you don't use.
    2. In Control Panel under Programs and Features click the link that says turn windows features on or off and uncheck all the checkboxes except for Games, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0, Windows Ultimate Extras and click ok when you are done. (If you use a Windows Feature that is listed then don't uncheck its checkbox)
    3. Download and run ATF Cleaner and select all the checkboxes in the program then hit the empty selected button, http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html
    4. Disable any Windows Services that you don't use by following Black Vipers Services Guide.
    5. Download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag from here, Auslogics Disk Defrag
    6. Do you have Windows Vista Service Pack 2 installed? If you don't then you should install it since the service pack will fix bugs in Vista and speed up the operating system. Download it from here.
    7. Try shutting down all background programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar. Does your computer still slow down after shutting down all background programs?

Let me know if your computer is faster after performing the above steps. :)

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your system details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.
