Virus/Adware can only start in safe mode, registry errors?

    We did try and did indeed learns things along the way and thats what life is about!
    BTW. it was very close to the salt water home....I still think :rolleyes: it would have made a good skipping rock though and might still if the shop tries to take too much out of the wallet.:)

    I only briefly scanned this whole thread. I've worked on a couple Acer laptops recently that had similar issues. One laptop was sent back to Acer twice w/ no good results. What I did to get it running smooth was:
    1. delete reg values of unneeded startup apps
    2. delete all start menu/programs/startup entries
    3. config services for optimum performance
    4. disable ALL Acer programs that load at boot.

    Laptop now runns well. I believe a key was disabling the Acer hardware mgmt software as it seems to "hook" in between drivers and Windows. I never understand why these manufacturers create & employ utilities that Windows already includes, such as power mgmt & user settings. The Acer power mgmt seems to be the culprit.
