I'm having trouble with my internet. I have my friend on her computer saying that this one website is working, but none of the computers in my house can see it. That is the only website that we can't view... My friend has the same internet provider and we live in the same town... Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem?

    Which web site -not WindowsBBS?

Check your Hosts file for an entry which may be blocking it.

Would that effect just my house and not anyone else? I can't view a personal domain of distored-melodies.org but I can see everything else and have not had any problems. Where exactly is this host file that would be blocking it?

Yes, computer - not house :)

The Hosts file entry was a bit of a longshot, but it can be used to block access by your computer to a web site. It is located at ....

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

You will need to enable View Hidden Files & Folders under Tools > Folder Options > View and the HOSTS file opens in Notepad. An example of entries which bar access to specified web sites ...
Doubtful if you will see anything at all, but worth looking - BTW I use a specialised HOSTS file a few lines of which are reproduced above.

A more likely cause is your security settings in IE - try adding the site to the Trusted Zone.

On the otherhand it may be being blocked by your Firewall or other security software.

I said house since all 4 computers on my network can't see it.. I'm trying that above right now and I'll edit the post when I finish....

[EDIT] All I got was "127.0.0.1 localhost" So it wasn't that and I added it to the trusted sites but still no change. What else could I have to change? My firewall is set to allow that site.

Are you and your friend using the same version of IE - 6 or 7?

What could be blocking this one site and nothing else from our computers? The only security programs I have on the computer are the windows firewall (set to allow this page) and Spybot that doesn't stopp anypages from being viewed. I'm getting a Cannot Find Server page with all of the same security and settings as my fried who is able to see it checked off in the Options menu. I've tried deleting the cache and all cookies. Nothing has helped... Is there anything that I'm not doing? What has changed since monday? I was able to see it on Monday, but now it's "blocked" when I haven't touched anything.

As none of your computers can log on to that site it does not point to a problem on a specific computer, but rather the common denominator, namely the router which is presumably what you use to connect.

Routers are outside my experience - I have posted a request for further assistance from BBS Team Members.

Go to Start> Run and type cmd then press the <Enter> key. At the command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns (notice space between g & /) then press <Enter>. At the prompt again type ipconfig /registerdns then press <Enter>. Type exit press <Enter> when done.

Try the page again. If that fails, with IE open go to Tools> Internet Options> Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security section. Make sure the following is checked> SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0. Click Apply> OK. Try the page again.

If that fails try the Opera browser. this will help to determine if it's an issue with IE or your network setup.

I'm downloading Opera to try now, but everything else seems to be good. I don't have PCT in my security settings though, if that would cause any problems I don't know... I'll let you know when Opera finishes installing...

I might have missed something in my reading but have you tried looking at the restricted sites under Tools, Internet Options, Security?

If this does not turn out to be an IE problem and alternate browser does not help.....I have noticed the below behaviors and have added food for thought. I'm sure this was largely based on my speed of server both my own wireless connection/communication and isp (again my own and site severs). You may not be as net challenged ie;connection/speed/bandwidth as I but with 5 or 6 networked computers, ya' never know. :)

I don't know which site or the stored link your using to load that site but after spending a few minutes at: http://www.distored-melodies.org/domain/ and trying a few of the links, I did have to try more than once and in some cases a few times to get some of these linked pages loaded before beating a server time out, however persistence eventually paid off. Since these appear to be largely personal blogs, many with photos, some pages just seemed to take forever to load. Perhaps you just need to try another route to get to the site or link desired. Try the link I previously provided and drill down to the personal linked site you wish. Failing that, how about some google cached links and once that is achieved, from within google, click on googles option of using "current link ", located at the top of any google cached paged.

Okay, I got Opera all up and everything and I'm posting in that now... It doesn't seem to be an IE problem, but your suggestion hasn't worked either. I get an error page, so it's loaded- but not loaded if you know what I mean. I have a pretty high bandwith and at a time I only have 2 and a half computers running on the internet if that. I have a wireless system set up. I'm going to contact my uncle to see if he can think of anything, but if you guys get any ideas, let me know! One of my computers have a spyware problem and it's one of the ones connected to the internet. It's that SpyLocked problem that is the big thing and I haven't had any time to attack it yet. Could that be messing up the whole network if that computer is being attacked? Thanks for your support.

Alright, I got the SpyLocked thing done and over with, and it's gone. I still can't see the webpage that I would like to. Could it be another underlying problem with a bad router? If anyone has any ideas, again, let me know.

The link is www.goodeats.distored-melodies.org but I'm starting to think this is a network/router issue... If someone has knowledge of routers, I think that will help...

It's not my internet, so the modem's out. My computer and network settings have been correctly set and reset to match the universal settings of the ones that everyone who can view the site use. That is why I think it's a router issue causing this. I have a belkin router.

I have no problem linking to that URL and regretfully have no further thoughts as to why you are unable to log on there.
