Sorry guys, a little confused, do I need to delete a driver first then re-install from the website, if so which of the three options do I delete?

    thanks :)

This is your wireless device .....

    Intel Pro/Wireless 220BG Network Connection

Download the driver to your hard drive.

Double click on the .exe file to install. There should be no need to delete the existing driver first.

To be on the safe side make a manual System Restore point first.

Hi again, I downloaded the driver to my C: and ran the exe file but it doesn't get past the loading screen - it freezes and I have to close it via task manager.

I also thought I could try installing the driver in safe mode, but safe mode is not firing up Windows properly. When I select safe mode it lists the system32/drivers and stops, it goes no further despite me leaving it for 10 minutes.

Do you think there's a problem with the wireless driver or something else?

Clearly a problem somewhere - if you disable the wireless device in Device Manager are you then able to boot into Safe Mode?

Hi Pete, when I try to disable/repair the wireless device it shows the disabling screen and freezes.

If I close with task manager and try to enable it again it says it can't connect. I also can't reboot the machine because it fails to shut down and launch again, the only thing to do is to shut down the machine completely, or sometimes I have to hold down the power button. :s

OK, why dont you try connecting wirelessly with a different wireless network card installed, perhaps from your other PC to eliminate it being a hardware issue with your current network card.

If it is fine, you know that there is a problem with your current one.

Post #12 - this is a laptop so the only recourse is to a PCMCIA wireless card if the laptop can accomodate it.

Looks rather like a hardware problem although software may still be an issue here - sooner or later you are going to have to bite the bullet and reinstall XP. If that fails to resolve the problem it points to a hardware issue.

Oh yes, apologies. I think your right, although I think its strongly something to do with the drivers as you haven't been able to re-install any other drivers.

I would try using a PCMCIA wireless card first to eliminate it being hardware before biting the bullet, unless you have a ghost image of your system stored somewhere.
