Well, I was going to take your advice and do this but then decided to give it a try on this puter first. It doens't work on mine either. This computer isn't on any network. Your's works, mine doesn't. I have to assume it's something other than the network thing that's causing it to not work.

I added the script and logged off. Saw the little window that says running shutdown scripts and then I see the one that says saving user settings and then I end up at the logon screen.

    thankyou for trying this

thankyou for stopping me check in to the lunatic asylum. as i cannot get it to work on a computer wether it ia a standalone, or on a network. Ive tried it on other versions of windows xp, e.g original, sp1a etc also.

i just wanted to point out that the scripts/bat files will always run if double clicked by any user, and do exactly what i want them to, but if the same script is asked to be run at logoff it just doesn't ( no matter if the script has been told to run from active directory from PDC, or locally using gpedit.msc)

so it is just another fault in windows xp to go with all the others

so do we just have to live with this ??

I'll see what I can find but make no promises.

On a side note, why do you want to run this script at logoff? If it's to keep people from just logging off for some reason or other, you could just remove logoff from the start menu using gpedit.

Edit: Well, never mind that. I just took a look and users would still be able to logoff using ctrl>alt>delete. Guess that wouldn't be the answer.

hi again, i work in schools, and i require machines to shutdown, or reboot when someone logs off . This is for various reasons depending upon location of the machine or to meet special educational needs of certain children/classes.

i have been doing this for several years sucessfully when the workstations were running windows 2000 pro, but it just doesn't work when you try to do the same thing on windows Xtra Problems.

    cheers

( and by the way some of the interface boxes require machines to reboot between users or they are sometimes not recognised when next user logs on )

How many computers do you have in all? If it wasn't too many you could maybe work around it until you find an answer by removing logoff from the start menu and put the script in there. Rename it to logoff, maybe change the icon and tell them to use that to logoff. Not ideal but it would work for the time being.

Not knowing how many computers and students are involved, I don't know if that's a feasible idea or not but I thought I'd mention it just in case.
