My new computer and monitor came with both DVI and VGA cables. When I set it up I used the VGA cable since I wasn't sure what DVI was. Now that I have done a little reading on the net, should I switch to DVI?

    PC Specs are:

HP Pavilion AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ with 3GB RAM

    Vista Home Premium

    NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

    20" Wide Screen LCD Monitor

    Thanks

    Mitch

In theory DVI will give a better 'picture', although you might not notice any real difference in everyday working, but for videos, etc it is preferred if available.

So easy to try - just switch cables, assuming both monitor and PC have DVI input/output.

I guess the monitor is a 'standard package' used with other HP towers and as it is DVI capable would have the appropriate cables supplied.

A little surprised that the computer does not have DVI - so commonplace these days.

    Hi Mitch

Also if you did have the "right" video card with both DVI and VGA then you have the possibility of Dual Monitors.

NOTE: the fact the video card has both does not garantee dual monitors. Most do support this but some mfgs do not, even with both connectors.

    Hi Mike,

If I had dual monitors, able to do and see more, my wife would kill me:D
