About a week ago there was a virus detected by ESEt NOD32 on my machine. It removed the virus but I thought I should scan again with another product to be safe so I DL AVG 8 which found sevreal additional trojans and various other **** and cleaned it all.

The next day my USB keyboard did not work at boot and XP showed a "USB device not recognized " message on the task bar. I tired the key board (Dinovo Edge) on another machine with no problems. I then searched for similar instances on the web (after updating the Intel chipset drivers, trying to update the BIOS (MSI FLash program crashes) deleting all of the VID reg keys etc.....all with no success.

I have used Hijack This, Anit-Malware, Stop Zilla (which caught sevreal that all the others missed) again with no success.

    PLEASE HELP

Sorry I forgot to mention I reinstalled Windows XP Pro and still had the same problem. Also tested the power at the USB ports and everything is OK....

If you are plugging it into the front ports of the tower, plug it in the back. Do not plug it into a hub, only directly into the tower.

It works when you go into the BIOS/startup configuration settings? If so, that probably means Windows is using the wrong drivers. Did the keyboard come with a drivers CD? If you have installed any software to say, run special keys, try uninstalling it. It could also be due to other software. Pre-installed systems like Dells and HPs come with mouse/keyboard "helper" programs. If yours has it, uninstall it.

After uninstalling any software, go to Device Manager and uninstall the keyboard. You can uninstall it anyway and also all of the listings under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. They will all be automatically reinstalled when you reboot.

Try going to the Dinovo Edge website and see if there are any FAQs or drivers.

I have no front USB ports and when I remove ALL USB devices I still come up with a phantom device. I have tried all the prior described efforts and at this point am at a loss. I have removed and reinstalled Logitech SetPoint with no success but the problem is not just the keyboard...or the mouse...ALL USB Devices come back unrecognized now. I have taken all the steps you recommend and still not working. As I stated before I even did a 100% clean XP Pro install on a FORMATTED DRIVE WITH NO SUCCESS.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas before I light this thing on fire.

I have no front ports and have tried everything you mentioned without success. REmoved Setpoint and reinstalled....the USB ports show the Device Not Recognized for all USB devices .

I have also tried to flash the BIOS because there is an update but it crashes when I try to run the program....on both old XP Installation and even the clean install I just did to a new HD.

    Pulling my hair out...

Sorry I haven't replied. My internet has been down the last three days:rolleyes:

You don't mention being able to use the keyboard outside of the Windows enviroment. Can you go into the BIOS/startup configuration settings or boot to a CD (even the Windows CD) that can test the keyboard.

Are you using a pre-Service Pack 1 version of Windows?. Some motherboad/system makers stopped including USB drivers and let Windows install them. You need a later Service Pack to install the drivers. If you have the drivers disk that came with the system, check on those.

I would uninstall the Logictech Setpoint and not reinstall it until the keyboard/USB problem was solved.

If the Universal Serial Bus controller drivers are not reinstalling correctly, it means there is a problem with the drivers.

Let us know the make and model of your motherboard/system.

If you think it still relates to the virus, you may need to low-level (zero) format the HDD to be completely free of it's effects (it may have damaged the boot sector). Although I can't see that relating to USB.

PS Don't do a BIOS upgrade from within Windows if the system may be unstable (which it sounds like it is). Use a boot floppy, CD, or memory drive method if they are offered.
