Hi. I've had the following problem recently on 2 different computers, both running Windows 7. I insert a flash drive into a usb port, and I get the usual autoplay window, and the drive works fine. When removing the flash drive, I use the "remove hardware safely" icon on the taskbar. The next time I inserted the flash drive into the same port, I get a windows message "this device could operate faster if plugged into a usb 2.0 port ". Apparently, I did something incorrectly when removing the flash drive, as the usb port is (or was) usb 2.0.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Go into Device Manager and scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and uninstall all the controllers and Root hubs - reboot to let Windows re-install the drivers and test.

Thanks Pete. Wow, what a quick reply 15 minutes, one of the things I love about this forum!
I'll give this a try. Any idea what I did wrong, or how I can avoid this in the future?

    Thanks again,
    Rick C.

I'm not guaranteeing that my suggestion will work - it is standard practise for USB troubles.

I doubt you did anything 'wrong' :) - there's only one safe way to remove a flash drive which you followed. There may be corruption in the driver for USB, hence the reload.
