Is there a general all-purpose program or method to uninstall programs which do not appear in the Add/Remove Programs list and do not have an uninstall module in the program itself.

Yes, just delete the program's directories and files in root:\Program Files\ and then edit out any registry entries for the program using Registry Editor.

What specific programs are you referring to?

    Hello Eleanor,

You can try using Windows Installer Cleanup referred to in this post http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=33181

Have installed it since that post. Not all programs show up in the list - have yet to puzzle out why. If not, you are going to have to use TonyT's method.

Also keep in mind - some programs do not register themselves to Windows (a small minority) either because they have a simple execute and any .dll or .ini files they need are contained in their own folders or they the just don't need any. These programs and their folders can be deleted from where they are. hijackThis is an example of this kind of software installtion.

    Regards - Charles

You can also try Spybot v1.3 in advanced mode. Click tools in the left pane then uninstall info.

If that doesn't work, it may be that part of the program is running, in which case you will need to "end process" in the Task Manager. Safe Mode is also handy for the "hard to delete ", and when all else fails, there is MoveOnBoot.
