    Pete,
I've admitted on several occasions to having a Teflon Coated Memory but I think that I know that now ...... :D ...... but anyway, that's not what I meant.

I am currently running SP1a and will fully update and clean up that installation prior to taking a precautionary Ghost Image. I actually keep it up to date on the Critical Updates and will only have to clean it up a bit.
That way I will know the exact status of the system when the Image is created and when the Image has passed the integrity check, I will install SP2 on top.

The alternative route is to roll back to the first Ghost Image with XP only and install SP2 immediately but that involves more reinstallations and I doubt that there would be any benefits ...... ...... but if I have any problems after installing SP2 on top, then rolling back is a clear option.

Is there an option to NOT take those prisoners? I feel like not needing them with a fresh Ghost Image to hand.

As SP2 RC2 is beta its designed to be uninstalled. In fact, the installation of RC2 v2149 recommended that previous installations of SP 2 be uninstalled first.

I had installed v2149 and then v2162, last beta release before official version. My uninstall file of SP2 was 445 mb. The rest were all the unistall of SP1 updates.

If the official version wants the uninstall of RC2, I'll just restore my final SP1 image, which I've saved to CD and my hard drive.

I did a search in Windows Explorer for files related to Windows Updates and found several *.log files. I also did a search for entries in the registry and there are several for each update.

I wonder how many left-overs remain if the uninstall folders are simply deleted and how many entries are missed by the registry cleaners.

I have some 40-50 MB and I think that I'll leave it alone.
