    Hi rrdvmail

OK the rest we're going to try and fix with HJT, we'll see how stubborn they are.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896

    O23 - Service: .net_5cciwl - - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close HJT.

    Reboot into safe mode.
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore "), please delete these folders (if present):

    C:\Program Files\BitTorrent

    After that, Reboot.

Please post a New HJT Log into this Thread.

Ok Geri, here is the new HJT log after following your previous instructions

But a note: after deleting on HJT the files you told me, HJT gave me this error: Unexpected error at procedure modBackup_Makebackup(sItem=020-applnt_dlls:)
error #5 invalid procedure call or argument.

I hit OK and went on with the rest of the instructions. Restarted with no problem.

    here is the log

    Hi
Yeah, Sorry I should have told you about that:)

Everthing is looking good except this...
    O23 - Service: .net_5cciwl - -

So here is what we are going to try.

Enable the 'Show Hidden Files/Folders' option, like this:
    Click Start.
    Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.

Go to: Start > Run > type in > services.msc , then click OK

Scroll down to the .net_5cciwl service

Click it to highlight it, then <right-click> and select: Properties
Select and set "Service Status " option to "Stop "
Select: "Startup type " and set it to "Disabled ", click Apply, then OK.

There are some instances, but not too many where you need to change the 'Recovery' settings in the properties box:
Right-click the service, select 'Properties' then select the 'Recovery' tab, and set all 'Failure' actions to 'Take No action'.

Do not reboot if it asks you to.

Now Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    O23 - Service: .net_5cciwl - - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close HJT.

    Then reboot your computer.
Please post a new HJT log.

This comes bundled with AOL, You can delete it and you really should, but it will come back with any update or upgrade of AOL so you will have to delete it again.
Go to your add/remove and remove viewpoint manager.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Hi:

The file you asked me to stopped the service, when I went to check it was stopped already

When I ran the HJT, the file didnt showed up for me to fix.

I restarted and here is the new log.

Let me tell you, this is a lot of work you people do... do you get paid in any way for all your efforts?

    Hi rrdvmail

If you happen to find it and can delete it do so.

 OK, well it's gone from your HJT log. Your Log is clean.
I would run a HJT scan every-so-often and look for that file. If it ever shows back up come back and let us know.

No, we are all volunteers, I came here years ago and was helped many many times by the fine people that come here. I wanted to give something back, virus and spyware removel interested me, so I joined a couple on-line schools and have been taking classes for about a year or so. By helping out is my way to say thank you to all the people here.

OK now lets do some clean up and a up-date and you should be good to go.

If everything seems OK then do the following.
Let me know how things are.

First lets get rid of those BAK (back up) folders.

    Please download this.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
    • Select:
      • Delete on Reboot
      • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

      C:\WINDOWS\bak\UpdReg.EXE
      C:\Program Files\Dell Support\bak\DSAgnt.exe
      C:\Program Files\iTunes\bak\iTunesHelper.exe
      C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\bak\gcasServ.exe
      C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe
      C:\Program Files\Winamp\bak\Winampa.exe
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bak\DSentry.exe
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Mediafour\bak\MACVNTFY.EXE
      C:\Program Files\Dell\Media Experience\bak\PCMService.exe
      C:\Program Files\Google\Gmail Notifier\bak\gnotify.exe
      C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\OfficeScan Client\bak\pccntmon.exe
      C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue\ControlPanel\bak\VersionCueTray.exe
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak\realsched.exe
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\bak\sgtray.exe
      C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\Diagnostics\bak\diagent.exe
      C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.1128.5462\bak\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
      C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\bak\jusched.exe
      C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1139319968\ee\bak\AOLSoftware.exe

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

(NOTE: You will need to fix the space between the b and the a here. b ak\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe before running killbox)

    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

You need to up-date your Java, here is how.

    Updating Java and Clearing Cache
    1. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
    2. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
    3. If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
    4. After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
    5. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
    6. There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked

      • Downloaded Applets
        Downloaded Applications
        Other Files
    7. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
    8. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
    9. Delete older versions from Add/Remove list.

I asked you to enable hiden files/folders earlier, we need to undo this.
To re-enable the 'Show Hidden Files/Folders' option,
    Click Start.
    Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading unselect Show hidden files and folders.
Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.

You can delete any tools you were asked to download, (FindAWF Vundofix, Killbox) There will be newer versions if ever needed again any way.

We have just a few more things to do, mostly maintenance and then our recommendations:

Delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion. It is very rare that anything significant is ever found.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
    1. Spybot Search & Destroy - A powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.

    2. AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.

    3. SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.

    4. SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.

    5. IE-SpyAd - puts over 23,000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all,
and MVPS Hosts File will accomplish a similar tactic and provide another layer of protection.

    6. Install WinPatrol to prevent unknown applications from being inserted to start up on your machine

Now just because you have security apps installed, they are useless unless updated regularly.

    7. Another thing I would suggest, is to install SiteAdvisor. It gives sites a few different 'ratings' and while not fool proof, a good additional layer of information about many sites.

    8. ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only, Cleans out temporary files all the garbage you collect while surfing the web.

    9. Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

    10. Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
    11. Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Well Geri, looks like you did it!!

I couldnt understand about the fresh restore point you mentioned because when I followed the link it only showed how to turn the option off and on. didnt saw anything about creating or defining a new restore point.

But besides that everything seems to be working soothly. I downloaded most of the apps you told me for protection.

You have been great and I am very grateful for all your help. Congratulations for your professionalisms and accuracy on this spyware removal matters.

If you can hint me with some links of those courses on removing spyware you took Ill take a look and see if I can get into one of them.

Thanks again for all your valuable help.

    Hi rrdvmail
You're welcome, glad I could help.
Here are the two schools I attend.

    http://www.malwareremoval.com/

    and

    http://www.geekstogo.com/

Let me say that it is a lot of work and you have to keep up on all the new viruses that come up, almost daily,
But it is also addicting and fun.

Hope to see you around the forms here...Not here, here, but around here.:D
