The main point was that the (MSI installer) is included in .exe downloads.
You don't need to download the specific Windows MSI 64bit.

    I hope this explains it.

I got that. Thanks for clearing it up. Why would Thunderbird offer the file either way? Maybe computer junkies really understand it. If I understand the file download correctly, it doesn't make any difference where you download Thunderbird (on their site), you get 78.3.2exe, not 78.3.1exe. Not sure what the difference is except a newer release. But I can't find if it's 32 or 64 bit, but I'm guessing that the download for their new version is 64.

If you clicked on the 64bit download - it will be 64bit.
Once the install is started, you may be asked to click on Upgrade to continue.
When the install is completed and TB is Launched - you can confirm the version by opening Menu > Help > About TB. ;)
Hovering over the Download does not show the version.

Thanks to you retiredlearner I have the newest 64 bit Thunderbird installed. It was so simple to do, but I get a little nervous for fear of screwing up something. I haven't heard from the Mozilla help forum yet. I guess they're not as eager to help as BBS is. If I hear from them, I'll definitely pass the info along. My thanks again.

As requested, here's a part of the info that I got from the Mozilla help forum. I think this was probably my issue all along. Also, as suggested there, I quit trying to use their "message filter" to control spam, and have deleted the filter that I created. All of my issues seemed to have cleared up. Thanks again for all of the help here. I think that this is finally solved.
