    Hi friends

As u are aware, some picture editor such as AcdSee, IrFan & Corel Paint use TWAIN source when acquiring an image from scanner. However TWAIN can only work if we run as Administrator. I tried to tweak with sharing & security rights on the folders and files relating to TWAIN in windows folder but it still require to run as Admin.

Using the source dedicated to the scanner eg Epson Perfection 640, one does not require to run as Admin.

Can some guru help to tweak this constraint. Thanks.

It sounds like you are using Vista or Windows 7, you need to tell us.

Are the programs made for that version of Windows? You say some programs work fine.

Try running the programs in Compatibility Mode (look it up in Help and Support).

Some programs seem to know how to use the correct drivers. Other want to use the Twain drivers (they are not actually drivers). See if you can redirect the programs to using the correct output (look in their settings).

Go to the Epson website and find the most recent drivers.

Uninstall the current Epson scanner drivers/software in Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.

Install the new drivers and see how it goes then.

    YES SIR :)
but Q, is TWAIN part of Epson software or a generic driver.
Correction TWAIN is in Epson website as epson10609.exe, sorry for the dumb Q. :)

    PS:
Completed new download and install the same, Problem Remains!. I still think that the issue is something to do access permissions.

You need to put your system details in your WindowsBBS user profile
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/adding_system_specifications.html
For example, we don't know if you are using XP Home or XP Professional.

Checking the Epson website FAQs, they only talk about Windows 98, 2000 and ME, so Windows XP might not actually be supported.

Where you select "Run as administrator ", note the location of target and use My Computer/Windows Explorer to view the folder that contains the .exe. My Epson scanner uses C:\Windows\twain_32\escndv or are you using "run as administrator" on the photo editing program? Adjust the security settings of that folder. You might need to allow "Users" the Write permission or maybe Modify (Full Control if you want). You might need to "Share" the folder for local users. Sorry, but I have limited experience so I will just try to guide you. You will need to see what options are available when you look at the folder's properties.

Permissions might need to be given in the registry.

The two programs that will allow you to see where the permissions are blocked are FileMon and RegMon. Get them if you cannot make the folder permissions work.

    Hi Matt

For yr info, my very old Epson scanner do not use .exe, only .dll. Rights in security & sharing at the folder, files level are set to full control already in this tinkering. I think i have to check into the registry and play with FileMon and RegMon u suggested.

    For sharing

Twain is kept in win > Twain_32 folder. In my case the Epson Perfection 640 is already 8 years old and the objects kept in it are .dll, etc, no .exe.

The problem is resolved by allowing Users full rights to all child objects in this folder.
