   Yes it does save both time & space. Reading a hard disk is typically faster than writing the data - even on an internal hard disk.

   Yes, the speeds from my Norton Ghost shows a big difference between creating an Image (40 MB/s - read and write) and checking an Image (100 MB/s - read only).
