    Yes -- it is. This is the path, though (in case that tells you anything more):

    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

    Plus -- I didn't look before, so didn't notice -- but there is another .vir file:

    kb913800.exe.vir

    That path is:

    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS

    I re-ran the script with the same results... Both .vir files are still there...

    Also -- the ComboFix random-number folder has been copied and placed on the first level under my C drive. It contains three items:

    1) what appears to be a blank folder entitled "N_ "
    2) A dat file containing part of my last name entitled "(XXXX)file "
    3) A dat file entitled "Windir "

    If I click on properties for both the dat files, it says they are unknown applications -- but the icon looks as if you would open it with Windows Media Player.

    It is also becoming increasingly difficult to initially connect with and stay connected to the internet. Once I get on the internet on my son's wireless network, if I lose connection there I can't get back on and have to piggyback on another network nearby -- and vice versa. If I lose connection, but the signal strength comes back, I still cannot connect to any usual sites -- MSN, Yahoo, or this one.

    OK. Let's leave this issue alone.
    kl1.sys file is Kaspersky file, so in the worst case scenario, you'll have to reinstall it.

    =================================================================

    Uninstall Combofix:

    Go Start > Run
    Type in:
    combofix /u
    Note the space between the "combofix" and the "/u "
    Restart computer.

    ================================================================

    Please download DrWeb CureIt (http://www.freedrweb.com/) & save it to your desktop.

    Scan with DrWeb-CureIt as follows:

    * Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe and then click Start. Click OK in a pop-up window allowing Express Scan
    o This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
    * Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
    * Choose the Scan tab and uncheck Heuristic analysis and click OK
    * Back at the main window, select the Complete scan button.
    * Then click the Green Arrow [IMG] Start Scanning button on the right and the scan will start.
    o Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move any file(s).
    * When the scan is done...
    * In the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top left, click File and choose Save report list.
    * Save the DrWeb.csv report to your Desktop.
    * Exit Dr.Web Cureit.

    * Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.

    * After reboot. Leave the Dr. Web CureIt log on the desktop.

    Copy and paste that log in the next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

    NOTE. During the scan a pop-up window will appear, asking you to buy a full version. Simply close the pop-up window.

    ================================================================

    Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
    * Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
    * A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

    ===============================================================

    Download HijackThis:
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
    by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackTHis log.
    Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

    NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

    So, how are the issues right now?

    Please download [color= "#FF8C00"]JavaRa[/color] to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
    • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
    • Accept any prompts.
    • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
    • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.

    Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

    Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

    ===============================================================

    Open Kaspersky, click settings, proactive defense and untick "registry guard ".

    ===============================================================

    Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

    1. Open HijackThis.

    2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

    3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

    - O9 - Extra button: Internet Connection Help - {E2D4D26B-0180-43a4-B05F-462D6D54C789} - C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Vendors\CN=Hewlett-Packard,L=Cupertino,S=Ca,C=US\IEB utton\support.htm (file missing)
    - O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Internet Connection Help - {E2D4D26B-0180-43a4-B05F-462D6D54C789} - C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Vendors\CN=Hewlett-Packard,L=Cupertino,S=Ca,C=US\IEB utton\support.htm (file missing)

    4. You may also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxpers] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPBootOp] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\HPBootOp.exe" /run
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\Hp\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe "
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Messenger (Yahoo!)] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe" -quiet
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe (leave this one alone, if you have paid version)
    - O4 - Global Startup: HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
    - O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
    - O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll (leave this one alone, if you have paid version)

    5. Click on Fix checked button.

    6. Restart computer.

    7. Post new HijackThis log.

    Well -- so much for feeling like I was getting somewhere... LOL The issues are only marginally better -- I can at least get a connection to my son's network... It's staying connected for a bit longer than before, but the same issues arise if I lose connection...

    That having been said -- I can't get past the Java download... I've tried 3 times on two networks... None of the tries went past 6% download before it stopped and said "Reconnecting to Server "...

    Leave Java alone for now.
    Did you complete HJT steps?

    Your computer is clean :)

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
    Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
    Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
    TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    2. Turn off System Restore:

    - Windows XP:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the System Restore tab.
    4. Check "Turn off System Restore ".
    5. Click Apply.
    6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
    7. Click OK.
    - Windows Vista:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
    4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
    5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
    6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C: ")
    7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
    8. Click OK

    3. Restart computer.

    4. Turn System Restore on.

    5. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

    [SIZE= "4"]6. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately![/SIZE]

    7. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

    8. Run defrag at your convenience.

    9. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html

    10. Let me know, how is your computer doing.

    Not that I don't believe you -- but I don't understand how it can be clean when I saw the Killwind.exe trojan come up on the Dr. Web run and I didn't tell it to fix anything after the scan was done (the instructions didn't say to)... :confused:

    Dr. Web does it for you.
    You can re-run it.

    Well -- the trojan is blocking my access to update Windows files including security downloads and it's also blocking the link you provided for the Dr. Web cleaner... The Windows One Live Scanner also says the same trojan is still there and cannot be cleaned. :-(

    You ran Dr.Web successfully before. Did you delete the program, or...?

    As for Windows One Live, I really don't care much what it says. It's not reliable program (being discontinued this month anyway).
    Besides, it reported Killav.gen!A infection, which is not reported by any other scan, we ran.
    Just out of curiosity, what file is reported as infected by One Care?

    How do you know, some infection is blocking you from Windows updates?

    I hit "run" instead of "save" on DrWeb before -- figured out afterwards that I should have hit save for it to go to the desktop... Even when I ran it before, though -- I must have hit the button to download and the yellow bar that pops up for IE that you have to tell it to download also about 10 times each before it finally went... When I tried to use the link again this time, I was just going in circles and it wouldn't download at all...

    The file that was reported as infected by the Windows One LiveScan is a file for my NetGear Wireless Adapter...

    I've been trying to read up on this Trojan... The info that comes up when Windows says it can't clean it says it's a virus that stops processes and terminates programs -- and it's only been in the last few weeks that I've had problems... Always been able to connect to download Windows Updates before -- but can't now...

    And I just found another forum from the UK that says it's a "false positive" and is not a virus at all, which is why no other program found it...

    That's why all this is so confusing... I can tell some things on my computer have switched by themselves -- so I know that something has to have done it... That's when I found this "virus "... It's frustrating, being a novice, not knowing which programs/sites are worth listening to and which aren't -- you would just assume that MSN's own tech page would be OK...

    Thanks for all your help -- I really appreciate it!!! :D

    You're very welcome :)

    Download Dr.Web CureIt from HERE

    What's the name of that file?
    If any doubts, you can always upload suspicious file here: http://www.virustotal.com/ for security check.
    You have to remember, false positive happen, even with best programs.
