I'm running Windows Vista, with McAfee Total Protection for protection.

My last few scans have reported a trojan. I called McAfee and one of their tech support guys went in and deleted a quarantined trojan, but it still says I have a trojan.

Seems like as time goes by my computer is doing it's own thing, i.e. my icons change size and location from time to time. And my computer seems to running slower and slower.

Can you please help me with this?

    Thanking you in advance,
    Chilly :)

I followed the instructions you wrote and when I try to use ARO 2011 and I
keep on getting a microsoft windows box that says:

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. "Windows will
close the program and notify you if a solution is available ".

    Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Chilly

    ARO 2011?

Ignore updating your AV/FW for now and just follow the steps from...

ok, I got as far as running the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (after unchecking the "devices box ". It ran for about 3 minutes and then my AVG Identity Protection box popped up (because I got that same microsoft windows box that says:

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. "Windows will
close the program and notify you if a solution is available ".

BTW, this is after the first scan that caused a Blue Screen, which I ignored and just restarted windows, as advised.

On my second try it allowed me to scan until my AVG protection popped up and ran a test on the FP9.EXE. While running that it detected Malware on my system, something to do with C:\USERS\KAREN\DESKTOP\FO8FUB10.EXE (full path) I would copy/paste it here but it won't allow me to copy it.
So after all was said and done an AVG box popped up and said:
    Threat removal completed
    File name: C:\USERS\KAREN\DESKTOP\FO8FUB10.EXE
Severity level: four red boxes showed up
    Summary: 9 process terminated
    2 files removed
    1 registry key deleted

It said Close, so I did and every thing seems back to normal again.

Do you think I need to do anything more?

    Thanks.

    Chilly,

We cannot advise you of malware issues on this board, all I can suggest is to start a new thread in Malware and Virus Removal with an outline of your issues and a link to this thread.

As you're an experienced user I assume you'll have no difficulty posting links?

    Good spot rsinfo,

@chilly, if you are using both disable realtime scanning on one or the other.

I'd still recommend a visit to Malware and Virus removal though.

Yep, wildfire, a visit to Malware and Virus Removal forum is on cards but let's save the analyst's time by cleaning up whatever we can.

Sorry for the delayed response Wildfire but this has been a busy 3-day weekend :)
I've been meaning to drop you a line and tell you that I think I fixed the problem.
I appreciate you taking time of your day to try to help me tho, and if anything starts acting up again I'll be in touch.
    Thanks again, Chilly

Refer back to post #5 rsinfo. I'm still not convinced but we can't twist Chilly's arm.
