I have recently tried to download the Sims 2 on my Toshiba satellite pro A10. It downloads fine and starts up then it goes to the loading screen and just when it gets to the end it comes up with a message saying "The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally...... then says to restart the computer to get settings back to normal" i have tried a million and one other sites trying to download a new driver but it keeps downloading the old one when i restart the computer. I don't have clue what to do because when i have tried to download a new driver on intel it says "A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer." but i'd rather find a simpler solution! it says at the moment i have a 6.13.10.3514 driver and the product detected is Intel® 852GM/855GM. Please someone help it's driving me mental!

    thanks in advance

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :)
Have you looked on the Toshiba website for an updated driver? .....

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp# - hit the Download tab.

Without knowing the model no. of your Satellite Pro I can't be more precise - please post the model no. or work through the selector on the URL.

Look at the sticker on the bottom or maybe a logo on the screen surround.

Have you thought about the fact that your graphics card, which sounds like a built-in jobby, may be incompatible? I know that this usually causes the game itself to crash, but it could also kill the drivers, theoretically.

I eventually found Drivers for your A10 at Toshiba :)

Click on this link for Specifications ......

    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe....C_MODEL=0&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&PRODUCT_ID=69234

Then on Drivers under Tools which should take you here ....

    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe....action=search&teddProduct=511&selShortMod=352

The latest display driver for Windows XP which I guess you are running was released 14/04/08 - version 6.13.10.3514.

Click on Display Driver to download.
No - unlike a desktop most components cannot be changed - for the most part they, especially the graphics, are integrated into the motherboard. The only components you can update by replacement are basically memory and hard drive.

Alicia, just because Sims 1, which is a much older game, ran on the PC, you can't expect Sims 2 to work. Unfortunately, as Pete described, unless the laptop was initially designed with a add-in graphics card, which this one doesn't appear to have been, then you can't replace them without replacing the entire motherboard, which for a laptop would be costly and a higher-spec 'board would be unlikely to fit in your laptop. And then you'd need more cooling, which also wouldn't fit. Hence why I've always used full PCs: if something goes wrong, it's never more than £100 to fix, whereas with laptops, it could be a £400 replacement. ;)
