I am working on a Satellite laptop running Windows 7 Prem with 4 gb ram. I cannot connect to IE at all. I have run Malwarebytes, adware remover, rkill, . I also went into command prompt and did a ipconfig /release and renew. I also did "netsh winsock reset"
In command prompt I can ping yahoo ip addy but it won't ping "yahoo.com "
I also keep getting a bad image error message "c:\windows\system32\protectMe.dll is not designed to run on Windows..... "
I cannot find that file. Is this an infection? I cannot update security definitions without internet. The taskbar shows a good strong internet access.
    Any help would be appreciated

You can update security stuff even if you can't get on line with IE. They don't use a browser to update themselves. Unless something is blocking everything from getting on line. Did you update MBAM before you ran it?

Hi geno368. This sounds like a malware infection to me. Please read this and post a new thread in the Malware and Virus Removal Forum.

Once your computer is declared clean, post back in this thread with an update on your issue and we will go from there.

Your comp is infected. protectMe.dll is associated with malware. Post in the malware forum as suggested above.

Thanks for the replies...I figured it was infected but all my scans found nothing. Instead of going through the procedures you suggest, because of time constraints, I am going to reformat. There is nothing important on this system...Thanks again
