I have two questions, related to my transition, but different to my earlier post:

    1. How can you get the day to display in the 8.1 desktop task bar? It's on the opening page, but doesn't appear on the task bar.

    2. How can you get the time display to show 24-hour (military) time.

I can't find any information about these.

On my XP box, I used Tclock. Do you know if it's available for 8.1?

I have military time(24hr clock) on all my machines. Instructions for 24hr Clock Then to remove the colon: regedit: H_KEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International(just highlight the key). In the right pane: Scroll down and right click on sShortTime choose Modify and just remove the colons and click Ok . Then right click on sTimeFormat choose Modify and just remove the colons and click OK. You may need to restart your machine in order for the change to take effect.

    No 3rd part apps needed...

Control Panel > Region you can set the time to 24 hour format.

If you double the height of the taskbar you'll get the day to display.

Thanks, Arie. I'll put that in tomorrow morning. I'll mark the thread closed.

Well, I got the 24-hour time display on the taskbar, but now the date is being displayed as "yr/mo/day ", with today being shown as "15/07/10 ". I'd like to get "10 Jul 15" style, but can't find where that's done.

Also, Arie, I can't find how to change the height of the taskbar.

Control Panel > Region > Format > for date layout.
If you hover the mouse over Line of the Task bar where the Desktop meets - it should show up/down arrows which will enable you to increase the size of the Task bar height. Neil.

You'll most likely first have to right-click you taskbar and uncheck Lock all taskbars
