Not that easy. That's how I could do it with Norton. No option to disable temporarily.

This came already loaded on this Vista eMachine. It's called McAfee Security Center. It is a 3 month deal but don't think it will last that long.

It's got more junk that I need. I want to go back to Zone Alarm and Spybot.

Not wanting to deal with too many more issues I just wanted to disable this McAfee thing to see if that's what's messing up sending my movie clips. I spent way too much time on the McAfee site last night trying to drill down to a contact option. Finally got too tired.

I checked most of the configure options, but this is the pits. I was able to disable the outgoing mail but I could still see McAfee doing something. (For hours.)

Today I will have to either uninstall it or spend more time trying to disable the firewall, spam blocker and what ever else it is doing.

    Thanks for the help.

    Pat,

I found this on the McAfee Forum: How Do I Disable McAfee Security Center

Double-click the taskbar icon and Security center will open.

Click "Advanced Menu" at lower left, if not already showing.

Then click "Configure" at left then "Computer & Files" upper left.
    Viruscan displays at right.

    Ramona,

Thanks for your help. I had already found that.

I have been able to disable the outgoing mail scanner and that wasn’t it. Now I’ve disabled the firewall and that isn’t it.

I was looking for a simple click that would disable the entire program. This thing has a firewall, spam killer, site advisor, privacy service and a virus scanner.

Prior to getting this Vista eMachine, I used Zone Alarm and Spybot with my Norton Anti Virus . Never had this issue.

But here is what I’ve been able to come up. I received two .wmv files. Using dial-up the downloads are always slow. But this morning I sent myself a 2.76 MB file. It took about 20 minutes to send and I suppose the same amount of time to receive. I pulled up my network connection status box and I had a good speed with the box showing about 5,xxx,xxx bps sent. (For dial-up)

So once again sent myself a message with the file that I’ve been having problems with. (3 MB) It said it was sending so I went about my business and about an hour later I checked and it was still sitting there. The network connection box showed that NOTHING was being sent. I just canceled the whole thing.

I called my ISP this morning while I was out and they said that even though it would be slow they had no limitations.

As you well know on top of this I just started using Thunderbird and Firefox. But I tried it in my old preference, Netscape Messenger. Same thing.

    Pat,

I deleted your message to Kathleen. I don't believe she did any posting, and since it seemed, for the most part, to be a duplicate of the post for the Forum, I deleted the part you meant for her.

If you can view the image in WMPlayer, then there is nothing wrong with the image. Have you emptied the Trash, and compacted folders?

I have no complaint about assisting anyone, but this thread is becoming way too long for anyone to follow. And, the focus is constantly changing. There are, definitely issues with the Operating System. But we started with the location bar, then malfunctioning Get Mail extention, which has nothing to do with Thunderbird, then the McAfee Security suite, and now WM video files. Did I leave anything out?

Yes, you're right. I've gotten carried away and off the track. Sorry. I know I should have started a different thread with the many issues I ran into. I was just so overwhelmed.

I will try to confine each problem to its own thread in the future. I know I am going to need LOTS of help.

And I haven't compacted my folders since I started using Thunderbird. I will do that.

    Thanks.

    Pat,

Another suggestion, other than starting a new Thread for each topic, is before asking multiple questions, to go to the Firefox and Thunderbird KB, and look through some of the topics. Most of your questions will be answered there... :)

    Thanks!
