    FYI

The name that a recipient has for you in their address book has no bearing what so ever on what gets displayed in the From: field in messages that you send..

The To, From, CC, BCC & Subject are determined solely by the data in the email message headers, and the headers are written by the sender's email client.

If a friend's name in the From: field has changed in a message you have received, then that friend has changed settings in their email client.

The headers that get generated by an email client can also be modified by the user manually, other softwware, add-ons, security software, sender's SMTP server and recipient's incoming mail server.

Generally, the recipient's mail program will not modify incoming message headers, thus the From: field of incoming messages is not controlled by Thunderbird.

Webmail, such as gmail and yahoo, also have the capability to modify what gets displayed in the From: field of received messages. Such Webmail systems may alter the From: field to coordinate with one's contacts list, groups, social networking settings, etc. One might even see a picture of the sender in such cases.
