    Hi TonyT
No, they are all connected to the main network, i have the guest network turned off, because one of my sons always connected there and then i can not see his computer on the network.

Here's what I would do if this were my setup & I was bent on using a Homegroup:

    1. remove all Homegroups from all computers.

    2. setup a Homegroup on the desktop computer. I consider the desktop the senior computer because it's always connected by wire & in a static location, while laptops may come & go on a LAN.

    3. One by one, setup each laptop to join the desktop Homegroup.

  3. to hide this advert.

    Hi TonyT
This sounds like you don't like homegroups at all.
Is there a better way of doing this that will not cost any money?
If so, I will listen to it.

    Thanks
    Sven

Yeah, I read that before and for some reason I got confused. I started out that way, and then found the Homegroupe icon in Control panel and that worked just fine for the win 8 computers, but I run into problems when it came to the win 7 computers.
I think I stay with the homegroupe for now, but will start over starting with the desk top.

    Thanks

    On the desktop:
Leave the existing Homegroup, then create a new Homegroup.

On the laptops, leave the existing one and join the desktop homegroup.

    Hi TonyT.
    I think I have a router problem.
I set up the home group, like you told me, and all was working fine last night. Today we had a power failure and I tried to get it running again, but it would not connect to the group. I plugged in my USB Wi-Fi network adaptor and all is well. I unplugged the cable from the router to the PC and I can still see all computers. If I unplug the USB adaptor and plug in the cable again, all is gone again. The only thing the cable does is give me internet access, nothing else.
What do you think, bad router?

    update:

I just did a reboot on my router, and all is good again. I guess the power failure did something to it.
I guess now this thread is really closed
    Thanks to all who help

    Well done!

One important note: All computers on the LAN should have networks designated as Private. By default, Windows will usually set the network to Public the first time adapters are switched.

Glad all is now working as it should.
