When I start up my computer (vista ultimate) I get a window with the following message "C:\Windows\system32\sfc_os.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error ". When I close this window (with difficulty) another window with "The procedure entry point sfc_os.SfcIsfileprotected could not be located in the dynamic link library sfc.dll" pops up. Behind these two windows is a window with "C:\Windows\system32\ntvdm.exe" with a prompt in it. I also get an error message " NTVDM.EXE has stopped working" and numerous other things that have stopped working.
Windows loads with a black screen and several programs with not open. I would appreciate any help.

From a quick websearch, I SUSpect :) you have installed a program (maybe run a driver installer) that was made for a previous version of Windows.

Try to avoid reinstalling it again if you "nuke and repave" like Arie suggested. :D (Actually, [backup] nuke and repave is the way I like to recover after a catastrophe....happened once on my computer....happens more often on computers I am asked to work on...:D :D)

I just did a quick websearch, please don't shout me down if I am wrong. :) I just want you to be wary of the same thing happening again.

    Matt

Thanks for the advise. I have nuked and repaved as you put it now I keep getting a "LOW DISK SPACE you are running out of disc space (NVCACHE(D:)" This disk has 500MB with 5.59MB free. The confusing thing is I didn't have this disk listed prior to the repave. Can you explain this for me please.

Sorry, can't find details on your laptop. I suggest you check with your manual or with the reseller where you got it from. It looks like you may have a hybrid hard drive (flash + 'traditional' platters), and I have no experience with those.

Thank you very much for trying. I have just gone into the Intel Turbo Memory and disabling ReadyBoost, rebooting the computer than enabling ReadyBoost again, this refeshed the Turbo Memory and solved the problem.
