    Hi Bill

Did you turn on the Windows Firewall as I recommended? If so did you turn it back off when you reactivated ZA? That may be why it boots up faster and some apps open quickly and some are a little slower. Check to see if both are now on.

Dave will let you know on the ZA service.

My suggestion if you are changing to COMODO in a few days. Disable ZA then enable Windows Firewall untill you do switch.

But all the Services that I had you to stop are not needed and leaving them off will gain you some (but not a great amount) of free ram. And some performance gains.

Run for a while without them and you will see they are not needed. Some of these were what M$ thought you should have, others are there if you were on a Domain etc.

If you use Hostman or MVP or HP hosts files then they will want to turn off DNS Client anyways.

    Mike

    Mike,

I did turn on the Windows firewall but turned it off when I reactivated ZA. I'm hoping to have time to make the switch over tonight.

I am leaving the services you recommended turned off, any performance boost is welcomed.

Thanks again for your help on this, I'm glad to finally know what the cause is and how to fix it.

    Bill

You made a good choice in COMODO!

    Good luck

    Mike

PS I am still stuck at a clients location waiting on a 10:30 Fedex delivery. And if it works i will be back home late tonight. Glad I could use this wait to help you!

Shell Hardware Detection service is what detects when a device is attached, such as a usb flash drive or camera. You would notice little to no improvement by leaving it disabled.
