OK with regard to SysRestorePoint.exe I am afraid that I may have not made myself clear. I have no problem creating Restore Points nor does my system have any problems creating System Checkpoints every 24 hours. My problem is that I can not Restore to any previously created points.

Now as far as ERUNT I have looked at the documentation and the first thing it requires is that the System Restore feature in Windows be turned off. I understand that ERUNT does save the system information in a dated folder in a separate location and to restore one has to go into the particular folder that pertains to the date you want to restore to and run the restore program. Now this sounds good however I would be more comfortable getting several other opinions as to this program. I would appreciate it if I can get a couple of opinions on this software so I can decide weather to install it or not.

I have a call coming from Microsoft Support on Monday at 11:30am CST so I will wait and see if they can solve my problem. If they can't I will decide on ERUNT based on any feedback I get.

If I do get successful help from Microsoft I will definitely post it as detailed as I can.

System restore can be a real help if working but if corrupted you can be out of luck and on to other options
If you do choose to keep your windows system as it is and not do a reinstall there is a third party open source program Erunt available for install which can serve as an alternate or additional recovery program in the future for your computer

Let us be very clear here - ERUNT is a Registry Backup and Restore for Windows NT/2000/2003/XP - only the Registry is backed up and it is in no way a substitute for System Restore which, in addition to backing up the Registry also backs up system files.
That is not so - where did you see that?

I have ERUNT installed and scheduled to run daily and maintain the last 7 days backups - I also have System Restore enabled on my root drive and it works faultlessly.

OK Based on the reply from PeteC in that he uses the ERUNT and keeps his System Restore turned on I went and downloaded and installed the program. I created a restore point and then rebooted. I installed a program, Ahead Nero, and rebooted again. I then went into the folder created by the ERUNT program and I did a restore back to before I installed the Nero program. The system rebooted and the Nero was not listed in the Add/Remove programs any more and there were no remnants of it in the registry. The only difference between ERUNT and System Restore was that I had to clean up after it, I had to delete the folder in the Program Files folder as well as delete the entry from the Start Menu. Other than that I consider that it will suffice for now. Hopefully when I speak to Microsoft on Monday they will come up with a solution to my System Restore problems.

Actually that is only a reccomendation based on the Author's perception of restoring, hard drive usage, etc - it is not a must :) The last line of that FAQ

Well I solved the problem, sort of. I got the return call from a Microsoft Service Rep and the first thing he told me to do was go into safe mode and try System Restore. I restored to a previous System Checkpoint successfully. I asked what the problem could have been causing it not to work in normal mode. He replied that first off there could be some drivers installed that might be causing the conflict but he made a point of telling me that since I hadn't used the System Restore feature in such a long time and the fact that restore points were being created those conditions could have been the cause. He also said that now that we successfully did a restore procedure, even though it was in safe mode, the System Restore may even now work in normal mode.
