I am scanning with Adware 2007 and will also post a new hjt a little later too.

 

SysFader Freeze [HJT Log] hell

No Pete, I am not posting again just to up my post count or have an expert read it sooner. I am simply updating it.

Today, I did not recieve a SysFader error.....
I DID HAVE A HUGE LOCKUP. Randomly, the taskbar and start menu disappeared. I go to task manager to see if it is SysFader and that is not shown. Nothing is shown as not responding. I tried ending as many processes as possible including explorer.exe, although that just froze it up more. The only option that I was left with was to Log Off and back in. My XPSP2 is going downhell.

When I scan with AVG Antispyware, SAV tamper protection detects AVG. Is this normal?

Open HiJackThis.
Click "Open the Misc Tools section "
Click "Delete a file on reboot... "
In the "Enter file to delete on reboot..." navigate to:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

And select the file

winmxw32.dll

Then click Open. After you click Open, HiJackThis will ask you if you want to restart your computer now. You do, so click Yes.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

After that, Reboot.

new hjt log

Originally, my host files were so messed up that I just copied the hosts from my laptop to my desktop. This is my desktop computer.

After you told me to delete winmxw32.dll, my system became very unstable upon starting windows. The only way I revived that was by using (last known good configuration)

OK the trojan file is gone.

Please restart the PC again.

Click Start>Turn of computer> restart.

Let me know if the same problem happens again upon restart.

Not so much SysFader this time

Everytime, I restart my computer, IEExplorer32 shows up in the taskbar.
I am also recieving random IE pop ups.

I am still having problems and I am not sure how I got infected.

Sniper, I Googled those suspicious filenames and didn't find much. I'd be curious to see what Jotti's online malware scan says about those two files if you decide to upload those two files to Jotti.

Do not attempt removing those files or anything else unless a malware-removal expert specifically tells you how to do so. Malware sometimes has to be removed in a certain way (and in a certain order) to give you the best chance of removing all of it.

EDIT: I removed the link to VIRUSTOTAL due to unexpected results when I tested the link.

 

I feel more comfortable waiting for Geri since he is currently reviewing my log.

We must disable the Real-Time Protection feature of Windows Defender for it may interfere with the changes we need to make.

To disable Real-Time Protection:

• Go to "Tools" | "General Settings "
• Scroll down to "Real-time protection options "
• Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection (recommended) "
• Remember to reactivate this feature when we have finished all our work.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

• Save it to your desktop.
• Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
• Select:
  • Delete on Reboot
  • then Click on the All Files button.
• Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

  C:\WINDOWS\system32\xwinupdaterarx.exe
  
  
  
• Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

Please make sure you disable Windows Defender as before.

Download Unlocker
Once installed:
Locate the files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEexplore32.exe <<This File
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xwinupdaterarx.exe <<This file

Right-click and select 'Unlocker'
In the window that appears select 'Unlock All'
In the drop down menu select 'delete'.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.
