We can't learn to drive if we never get behind the Wheel.

I am finding that out too. A couple of games we play between the machines apparently do not seem to like 100Mbps Full Duplex. At least that is what I am assumming as they always worked before. They run but not smoothly.

So it looks like ( as I believe someone else mentioned before ) the better setting for my system my be AUTO.

Anyhow. It has been very educationaly. And I am finding out what I can or cannot do.

An excellent example of a situation where Gigabit networking can be worth while. However, I wouldn't describe it as normal.

And even in this extreme situation, the hubs still worked.

So I contend that my main point still stands. Don't rip your hubs out just for the sake of it.

BB - try 100Mbps half-duplex and see if things improve.

    This should get some chuckles.

    Machines Bob, Nancy & Rip.

Changed all three back to auto. Bob and Rip behaved nicely with just a Windows restart as told to to by the message on the screen.

Nancy would not behave until I COLD ( power off ) rebooted it.

This tells me ( at least me ) very clearly that there are other problems which I need to check into on that machine.

    SpyBot. AdAware, AVG find nothing.

At this time I THINK changing to Half Duplex would be a waste of time. I have to got to town today and will get a new NIC. But in all honesty I do not think it is the NIC. I think it is some other mis-behaving software ( or DRIVER ) because it does somewhat seem to depend on what has been run. Gotta set a Pencil and paper in front of the User.

BB - the half-duplex suggestion was mostly to see if the game software got confused with simultaneous data flow too and from.

Given the router/switch and new switch you have, if things won't run perfectly at 100 full-duplex you are looking at hardware problems (cable or card) I think or possibly a glitch with the networking software.

    Hey Newt.

I hear you loud and clear. And I am thinking along the very same lines.

Where I was did not have a card. Plenty if cable but no card. Wired cards seem to be hard to find around here.

But one thing I did find. The cable from the machine was POSSIBLEY not in tight at the switch.

    I will be trying again.

I am on the problem machine right now with it set to 100 full.

The game that gave us problems before now seems to work just fine.

Along with the possible non-tight connecton I found the cable was UNDERNEATH the case.

But overall things look good for now.
