I have just installed xp service pack 2 and immediately started receiving the error referenced in posting http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=47029&highlight=svchost.exe+0x009a9eec. I have gone through the procedures there and have done numerous scans for malware and registry problems to no avail. The error is annoying at startup just as the desktop comes up. If I close the message the system runs fine. I am considering removal of service pack 2 and reinstalling pending advice here.

    Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

Look in the System and Application logs and please post back here the details of the error being thrown.

I do not see a good match for your problem and the earlier link you provided.

    Thanks,

I appreciate your help. Problem is not resolved. This installation was a migration from Windows 2000. I am going to reformat the C drive and perform a fresh install of XP as several other problems are creeping in.

    Regards,
