There are a couple of things that might cause that problem (spyware or RAM). When an application is giving memory location errors, I would run a memory test.
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com I found has a great set of test utilities that run on just about everything. Run 1 or more of the mem tests, if they are reporting errors then its more than likely you have bad RAM. If all tests are good I would reccommend downloading Ewido Security Suite. It only gives you a 14 day trial but I have had it clean many things Adaware, Spybot, and MS Antispyware missed.

Also make sure that your AV is up-to-date it could be some weird virus.

Please post results of your findings

    start->run->eventvwr.msc and OK.

Once the event viewer is open, locate a log entry for the svchost error. When you find it, click the icon below the up/down arrows to send a text copy to your clipboard and paste it here. Hopefully it will have enough detail to start tracking down the cause of your problem.

It does help. Less information than I had hoped for but more than I had expected.

Svchost.exe is a sort of wrapper application that holds other services while they are running. It looks as if one of them is faulting which is why we aren't getting more detail.

First thing to try is some general system cleanup followed by a check of system files with replacement of any that are found to be bad, wrong version, or missing.

In My Computer, right click on each of your partitions in turn and left click on properties. Then click the cleanup button. The initial run will take quite a while unless you have been doing this regularly. First it will locate things to clean - check all the items after they are found - then click again to have them cleaned. The thing may look as if it has stalled but it hasn't.

After that, open a browser session and dump all your cookies, temp internet files, and history then close the browser.

Next, get into the event viewer and empty all three of the log files.

Last - assuming you have a regular XP install CD rather than some sort of recovery CD - click on start, on run, key in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and OK. If it asks for your CD, put it in.

When the system file checker has finished, open a cmd prompt (start->run->cmd) and key in
    Code:
    chkdsk /f
and ENTER. It will tell you the deed cannot be done just now so opt to have it run at next boot.

Reboot the PC and see how things are. You may have been cured but if not, we can do some more digging.
