:mad:Hi all,I am using Dell latitude XP,When i start my pc,svchost.exe-network services uses 100% cpu,if i terminate this process,my pc becomes super speedy.Googled a lot and found lot of persons affected by this, but no solution in any of the forums.I think this is a genuine process and should not start during pc startup.Problem occured only after i installed hp hosts. Its kernel32.dll under this process which eats up.Scanned for viruses and refrence of the link is below:

Look like that HP hosts fileyou downloaded may be the problem

    Look at this: http://hosts-file.net/?s=Download

Follow the instructions about disabling DNS Client service to check it out.

Purpose of a host file is to resolve a Web Site Name to an IP address.
    I only use DNS.

Normally you’d use the address of your gateway (router or modem)
It in turn uses the IP address of the DNS server of your ISP.

    It can be set manually.
Start – control panel – network connections - properties of network connection – properties of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) – check: use the following DNS server addresses.

    Preferred:
The address of your router or gateway (192.168.x.x) or the address of the DNS server of your ISP or the address of any other DNS server.

    Alternate:
Add another one. You can google for various ones.
    One is: 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS)

    Press advanced.
The DNS tab allows you to add more and determine the order they’ll be used.

Under the WINS tab verify that:
    Enable LMHOSTS lookup is unchecked.
Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP is checked.

    ps
If know the IP addresses of sites you want to go to and no DNS server works?
You can develop your own HOST file.
    Google for LMHOSTS.

Thank you for taking out time for me.The information was very useful as i didn't have any idea about DNS servers.
