    Hi,

I'm afraid my desktop (HP Pavilion) is about to crash. It makes a weird, brief, fluttering sound when started up, then goes to a black screen that says "Windows Boot Manager " at the top, and below that "Choose an operating system to start or press TAB to select a tool." Windows 7 is highlighted and is the only option. I press enter & it goes to the normal screen. Everything then appears to be normal, but it's not: the backspace key doesn't work at all and last night when the space bar key was pressed, a 4 would appear after each word I wrote. Today the space bar key seems fine. I tried using 2 keyboards & had the same problems with each.

I am not a newbie but have limited computer savvy. Would appreciate any and all help!

    Thank you!!

Hi elleno, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

For your keyboard issue see this link, How to Fix a Keyboard That Has the Wrong Characters.

For the Windows Boot Manager problem try this method to disable the Windows 7 Boot Selection Menu.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

Thanks very much for the quick response & all this info. I added my computer specifications & checked the keyboard settings. For some reason my computer started without a hitch this morning, so will keep the black screen instructions & hope never to need them! Appreciate your help!!:)
