From the Samsung website under the question for your model number:
I am trying to connect my Digital Camcorder via XP and it is asking for driver's?(VIA FIREWIRE)What should I do?

You need to remove the drivers that might have been supplied with the Firewire card and then get XP to install the firewire card with the drivers from the database in the operating system. It is usually detected under "Texas Instruments ". Once installed under these drivers, connection is usually obtainable

the link for the FAQ is here

 Thanks Mitchell, hopefully someone can explain that to me in terms that i will understand, when it comes to me and computers things like that complicate me, i would'nt even know where to start in deleting a driver or getting XP to install the firwire card

But thanks again for taking the time to help :)

Here is a guide on how to remove drivers
http://static.tigerdirect.com/html/guide_How to completely remove older drivers.html
    It seems quite comprehensive.

If it doesn't say, make a Restore point first (read in Help and Support), just in case you need to go back.

I found that by doing a websearch for "How to remove drivers ".

    Try this:
After you uninstall the drivers and you restart the computer, the Add New Hardware wizard will run. Try the options to see if Windows will recognise the card by using Plug and Play (automatic detection). If no luck, use the selection "Let me choose the drivers from a list ". If you know the brand of the chip (they suggest Texas Instruments), see if you see something close and highlight it, but click the Have Disk button. Get it to look on the Firewire card's drivers CD for the drivers.

Hopefully that will work, but why they should tell you not to use the card manufacturer's drivers seems strange.

Also read in Help and Support about connecting a camera.

Thanks for collecting that info for her Matt. I had an emergency to take care of and then work so wouldn't have been able to respond until now.

    Thanks Matt
Will check that all out, but will have to go back to the shop where i got the firewire card installed as they never gave me a CD for it when they installed it.

    Thanks again much appreciated
