Sound only when using headdset

I use a HP Pavillon dv6000 laptop with OS of XP. For some reason the last few days I can only get sound when I use a headset. I have did a system restore, rebooted, done all updates, checked to make sure no controls have been muted etc. Can anyone help me please?

 

Have you tested the speakers with the Realtek Audio Manager? You may want to try uninstalling the audio device in device manager and then reinstalling it or rebooting and letting XP reinstall it.

You may also want to try the other troubleshooting options at HPs website, if you haven't already.

No insult intended, but, are the speakers A/C or battery powered or are these built in speakers?

They are built in speakers. They worked one day and didnt the next. I have visited the HP Site you mentioned and did everything they suggested. I can hear using a headset but not without. I am truely baffled.

 

Test the speakers by inserting the cable going from your sound card to speakers into some other audio source like an ipod or mp3 player.

Check the connecting wire too.
