Know what? I've already done this. A couple of weeks ago, I downloaded the newest BIOS and then I had the WiFi card white list bypassed on it. Then flashed it on the laptop. So, I have the latest BIOS already.

I understand. I'd be uneasy also.

Well there isn't anything else that I can suggest unfortunately. Did the laptop behave this way when Windows Vista was installed on it?

Well I am out of ideas on what else it could be. Maybe someone else will chime in and offer some answers. Otherwise you may just have to live with this issue until you are ready to upgrade to a newer system.

Since it shuts down fast in Safe mode, but slow in normal, something loading in normal mode is causing the problem.

Use the process of elimination (brief instructions above) to isolate the culprit(s).

Once we have that information, we can try and help you find a solution.

Doc, Blufx already tried a clean boot and it did not make any difference. I don't think its a background program causing the issue especially when this is a clean install of Windows 7. I think we are dealing with driver incompatibility which we cannot fix.

    been there already

Doc, I've already done this before, but I did it one more time just to show you. I've told you it's not the time that's the issue it's the behavior. Look at the pic. I took everything from startup and still had a 24 second black screen before desktop. I'm wanting to know what causes the black screen after Win logon and the flashing screen at shut down. Did you see the video I posted?

The black screen being displayed after the Windows logo screen is simply the delay being caused by your slow computer trying to read and load up a zillion lines of Windows code into memory. Put a SSD in it and the time that black screen is being displayed will be reduced significantly.

Ok, my machine does something that nobody understands, runs perfect between these glitches and an SSD is gonna fix that? I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. There is an underlying problem.

I think it was made in 07 or 08. But it has a decent dual core CPU, 4 Gb ram, and 7200 rpm H/D.

To me, it sound like Windows 7 has a bit of incompatibility with some of your hardware. I've seen computers run bad on one operating system and good on another.

Whether it's a drive issue or not, I don't know. I guess if I were in your shoes, I would try a different drive and see if that helps.
