    Thanks Pete, let me know if you have anything to try. This is really puzzling.

    In Control Panel< System and Security< Power Options< try setting the power plan to High performance and rebooting the machine.

    This is strange. I change it to high performance and it doesn't give me the option to apply. The button is grayed out.

    There is no apply button. You should be able to select the High performance option and then close the Power Options window. Then go back into the Power Options window to verify that the selection was set properly.

    Power settings

    The pic shows the default power settings. I click advanced settings to see "high performance ". I click OK, and it's still on "balanced ".

    I could be totally wrong, but it sounds like it could be a corrupted operating system.

    Download and install the latest driver from here, GeForce R304 Driver.

    I doubt it could be a corrupt installation since its a new, clean install of Windows 7.

    Very possible, but I have seen times when I had to reinstall XP and W98 less than a month apart. Sometimes, things just don't go right.

    Another strange one

    Sorry for the delay, Gout has been killing me!
    OK, that didn't work. Everest Ultimate shows I have an Nvidia Go6150, but nvidia says I don't.

    @James Martin,
    I don't think it's a corrupt install either. As stated, I've installed twice. and both times the system runs perfect with the exception of this.

    It's probably worth mentioning at this point, I just had a GPU reball performed on on this motherboard. It was dead because of HPs infamous overheat problems in the DV series
