You bring up some very valid info on what seemed to be running. WAY too much. Or multiple copies.

Also IF an over top install was done YUCK!!!! any problems may get carried right over.

    YES !!!

To me that says an overtop upgrade was done. Am I wrong ?

    Hi Elaine,
How ya' doing? Where did you go? I sure hope you didn't catch any virus your computer may or may not have had? I know these things can drive one crazy and in some cases actually make people disappear :) :) :) I hope this is not the case here.

    Hi a'll,

Thanks for all the recent advice and knowledge. I'm sure you're correct on my panic issue....(Mother did not raise a patient child here!)<G>
But, to bring you current. I upgraded from Win 98 with Win XP with Security 2 Pack. I did NOT do a clean scan prior to upgrading, but, I ran every SpyBot, Adaware, and about 4 others, 3-5 times prior to the upgrade. so feel rather confident that I did not have any viruses at the time of upgrade.
I truly appreciate the comments reference duplicate programs running on this thing and will take Copernic off, as I do know there are several search engines out there that does not take up this much memory. Again, does anyone know of a program to locate all duplicates and help me remove without negatively affecting my system?
My system is still "shaky "...can't connect to all web sites, very eradic on connections of same site, same with Outlook Express...works sometimes and then won't at other times.
Microsoft's Senior Tech called (from India) and had to reschedule because he has to consult the Senior Team in order to ascertain what needs to be done. Haven't heard from anyone yet! How about that?? Oh yes, he did say that updates would not correct this problem.

Ya know, when I installed my Fuji dig camera, I did not select to autorun, so why is it doing so? The same applies to several others that show as autorun.

Again, many thanks to ya'll and if anyone has suggestions of how I can "fix" or fine tune this thing, please let me know.

    ec

    Hi Gang!

Well, I'm happy to report that an entry level Canadian with XP Support fixed my websurfing problem today! Yeah! It was nothing but a matter of uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter that came with XP via Device Manager! Their Sr Techs couldn't fix it, but an entry level staff could! (I told him to contact Bill Gates and ask for a raise)
One of the things the first tech had done was to do a "reg backup" and saved to my desk top. Can I safely delete this now by deleting the icon because I need the space?

Boy, what an experience! Now, I'll try to use this and see if XP works better than '98.

Please let me know if anyone knows of a utility that will detect and remove duplicate files.

    Thanks :D

Glad to hear that you are back up and running.

Try EasyCleaner 2 to detect duplicate files, but be careful what you delete :)

You can safely delete the Reg Backup - as it is a back up of before your problem was solved it will 'contain' the problem. Good idea to make another back up and store it in a folder on your hard drive.

Well, I'm back! Of course now my system is telling me I'm low on RAM. Ran Ezcleaner and found 2 pages of duplicate files, yet it will not allow me to "delete" any, just print, save and close. Which I printed them off. Why can't I delete?? Also, ran "unnecessary files ", found a few and deleted those.
Also, purchased RAM 1200 for this Sony, but for some reason, it was not recognized. Agent at Circuit City said may have to be Sony's brand of which I'll have to order online from Sony.

I've removed all programs I can remove and still function. Any ideas??
