I have scheduled my AVG to start scanning at 23.00 - my computer is active at that time but later it goes into sleep mode and the scan stops. I thought it didnt go to sleep while something was running? Any suggestions?

Apparently the scan isn't doing enough to keep it awake...Could maybe leave your email app open and let it check for new mail..

I'll try the email idea but the scan is opening and reading files at a hell of a rate. I'm wondering if the sleep criteria is mouse and keyboard action only - if so that is a cause for concern if it shuts down whilst say a batch run is being performed. nah MS wouldnt do that.

    Hi Ron.

Can you post your system specifications, make and model.

Have you updated to the latest BIOS for your machine as it could be some sort of issue there?

    Hi
I've used the Windows 7 sysinfo facility to put the details into a file but at the moment I cant see how to attach that file to this post. Its got mountains of info and I don't want anyone to spend time on this. I am just a home user and I have now switched off the sleep facility which has enabled the scan to complete in in 4 hrs. The sreen still blanks which is ok.

As regards the bios it is 4 yrs old but I dont want to mess trying to upgrade - I have had enough bother going from XP to Windows 7 without getting a bios problem.

However I am grateful that folks have taken the trouble to respond to my query and perhaps the replies will help some other individual with the same problem.
