i realize this has been asked before, but eh...none of them HELPED me. so here we go yet again. i am on a laptop and the track point is driving me bat **** insane. when i go into control panel do turn this OFF. i get the fabu error message that i can't run dll as app? all signs are pointing to this demon called rundll32.exe.mdmp and appcompat.txt that are hiding in some obscure folder in my temp files. i have deleted zone alarm, and ran hijackthis...

free christmas present to someone who fixes this. NO JOKE. i'm that desperate. lol.

    Hi bucknineteen,

every time I've had any problems with rundll32.exe.mdmp and appcompat.txt it has been due to malware running on the machine. I'm pretty sure those two items shouldn't be in your temp files. As I seem to remember neither Sophos or whichever other AV we had deployed at the time (working for a different company now and can't remember) corrected the problem. I ended up having to pull two machines offline and clean them up manually with either AVG or Avira as I seem to recall - much to the disgust of the department coordinator but at least it seemed to work. Once you've used these (just temporary install, update, clean up and uninstall) I'd recommend using the standard disk clean-up tool before you run anything else.

I'm afraid that is as much as I know. Not sure which other solutions have been offered previously but I'm not in a position to use HijackThis at work either so can't comment on the results of that.
