Here goes...I'm running Windows xp pro and last week my pc began having problems located the "my computer" or "control panel" files. If I would click on either icon, the "flashlight" would pop up and it would never find any files. The only workaround to be able to get to my d drive or a thumb drive for that matter is by going through Start/Run to get to the c drive. It's hard for me to explain---does this make sense?

About this same time, when I tried to shut down the pc it hangs on "Windows is shutting down ". I've tried to do a restart instead and it still hangs. I tried running ccleaner's registry program and that didn't solve the problem.

I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Oriana, it sounds like you may have some virus/malware in your system. It might pay to Post in the Malware and virus Forum. Neil.

    I'd concur with Neil's suggestion...

Please read this and post requested logs in the Malware and virus removal board.

    NOTES:
When posting the logs ensure word wrap is switched off (in notepad Uncheck Format->Word Wrap) as this makes them difficult to read.

Be aware that only Malware analysts will advise and they are often busy. Your post will be taken on a first come first served basis but it may take a while before you receive a reply.

Include a link to this thread if you can.

    Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion. Oddly enough, on Friday the problem magically fixed itself. Maybe I'm living in denial, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and see what happens this week.
