    Original poster may still be a little confused on the "what_to_do" and is now reluctant to ask for help again. Sooooo......

    To make sure you have the "quicklaunch" toolbar displayed on the taskbar:
    >Rightclick on a blank area of the taskbar
    >Select "Toolbars "
    >Put a tick on "Quicklaunch "
    >It should now be on taskbar
    >If the "show desktop" shortcut is not in the quicklaunch:
    Hit the F3 key for a file find popup
    >type *.scf and hit enter
    >when show desktop.scf shows up rightclick_N_hold, dragNdrop onto the quicklaunch toolbar.
    >Select "create shortcut "

    ==============
    The original directions you found so confusing was the "how-to" on recreating the scripted icon if it had disappeared for some unknown reason.

    You needed to open Notepad and copy bolded text into it:
    [Shell]

    Command=2

    IconFile=explorer.exe,3

    [Taskbar]

    Command=ToggleDesktop

    Save the file you just made with name as "Show Desktop.scf " [include the quotes so .txt extention is not added
    by notepad default.

    Put this file in c:\windows\system folder

    use previous method to add the shortcut to the quicklauch toolbar.

    ============
    I hope this was a little easier to follow and no one is offended by my butting in here.

    Just simply copy the following text and paste it into a Notepad session:

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

    Then click FILE > SAVE AS > and type:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Show Desktop.scf

    That's it! No drag, no drop, no nuttin. It just appears, assuming you have
    a Quick Launch Toolbar.

    :D Ann, we've dumbed this down so many ways it must truly be a maze for a beginner.
    I suppose that's part of the learning process.
    Beginners must hang tough and they'll eventually
    get the lights turned on.
    I certainly hope HisPowr4U didn't give up since there
    was a lot of time and effort put forth to get
    the method across.

    If the Show Desktop icon is deleted from Quick Launch, the procedure below will recreate the file.

    Open Notepad and enter the following text:

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

    Save the new file as Show Desktop.scf then drag and drop the icon on the Quick Launch bar or whatever location you want the shortcut to appear.
