i have to agree with you on vista and what m.s. did to windows explorer. that probably is the big reason why i also will wait for windows 7. not sure why they did to explorer what they did but i really dislike it.

    Totally off topic but anyway:

Is Windows 7 a code name during development or will it be released under that name?

Christer - sorry bout getting off subject there. i have installed sp3 on every new dell i get in for my clients, have installed on all my machines and have had no problems at all. as normal one needs to make sure there are no bugs on their systems before doing the upgrade to sp3. read somewhere that sp3 might make xp a little faster i have not noticed that.

windows 7 is all i see when reading about it. have not really seen any other name for it so far.

Windows 7 was originally code named Vienna - what it will be called on release is anyone's guess. My bet is not Windows 7 :)

    gghartman,
I'm not into computers for a living but I help friends from time to time. I have installed SP3 on a handful of systems and there were no problems.

One friend wanted help with a fresh installation. I installed his HP/Compaq OEM version and immediately after that, I slapped SP3 on top of it. No problems with SP3 but with a few drivers that he didn't have available (I left him with those "hanging "). When on-line, it activated automatically. A few days later, he called and told me that an installation of Pinnacle Studio Ten had hosed the system. I don't think it has anything to do with SP3 ... ... but rather with fat fingers.

    Pete,
since it had been code named Vienna, I was afraid that MS already had chosen a silly name like Windows Seven ... :p ... which comes with IE8 and WMP11 ... :D ... !

    Everyone,

Thanks for the continuing dialog in this thread.

My first experience on WindowsBBS.com, which included members and staff, has been both enjoyable and extremely informative. :):)

I'll let you know if my SP3 download is successful.
