I've been using Norton Disk Doctor & SpeedDisk since the days when Windows 3.11 was king, and Bill Gates made the far-sighted prediction "No one will ever need more than 640K of RAM on a personal computer ". Great utilities both, but I steer clear of Symantec's current bloatware. Are they running a kind of 21st. century "Marshall Plan" to give unemployed programmers a new start? Or are said programmers all ex-Microsoft employees, and therefore skilled in crafting tiny, efficient, bug-free, user-friendly and highly effective software gems?

I know what I think, but I'm not going to risk a lawsuit.

 

I have to agree with Martin. The only way to eliminate Norton, once installed, in less than an hour, without getting a Migraine, is to reformat the drive.

I have NIS 2003, but I have been installing eTrust on other computers. I have been very pleased. eTrust will replace Norton when I reinstall XP, or my Norton sub runs out, whichever comes first.

I, too, have "uninstalled" Norton and installed e-Trust both AV and Firewall (about 2 months now).

So far no problems and am very happy with it.
