Setup was unable to open information file netoc.inf

    The empty lines do not matter.

    Do this:

    Insert the Windows XP CD in your CD drive.

    Start, Run and type:

    rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

    (in one long line. Just copy/paste the above entry)

    Press ENTER


    Reboot when done.

    Then follow the instructions here to apply IE 6 SP1: http://www.petri.co.il/download_the_full_ie_package.htm

    It Worked

    Hope you don't mind me stepping in, but I had the same problem with not being able to access the "Add-Remove Windows Componants "

    This worked for me.:)
    1. Insert your WinXP CD
    2. Go to Start > Run. Type in: Expand D:\i386\NETOC.IN_ -r C:\Windows\Inf, hit OK

    Hi guys

    I dont have a Windows XP CD the programs were installed when I bought my PC secondhand :mad: The CD I have been trying to install is SP2

    So is it possible to download get a WinXP CD free or will I have to spend lots of $$

    I really appreciate all this help especially from Bill
